Product Description

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Surface Insensitive Instant Adhesive SI1500 is a fast-curing, cyanoacrylate-based adhesive designed for bonding difficult-to-adhere surfaces. It provides excellent adhesion to a wide range of materials, including plastics, rubbers, and metals, making it ideal for applications requiring strong and durable bonds. The adhesive is formulated to offer impact and shock resistance while maintaining high strength over time.

Key Features

  • Surface Insensitive Formula – Bonds well to difficult surfaces, including slightly acidic or contaminated materials.
  • Fast Cure Time – Reaches handling strength in approximately 30 seconds.
  • High-Temperature Performance – Retains strength at elevated temperatures up to 125°C (257°F).
  • Impact & Shock Resistant – Provides durable bonds that withstand mechanical stresses.
  • Versatile Compatibility – Bonds plastics (LSE and MSE), elastomers, metals, ceramics, and more.

Recommended Applications

  • Bonding plastic and rubber components in automotive, electronics, and consumer products.
  • Assembling small parts requiring fast handling strength.
  • Attaching rubber seals, gaskets, or O-rings in industrial applications.
  • General-purpose bonding for substrates with surface contamination or acidic surfaces.

Technical Data

Typical Uncured Physical Properties

Attribute Name Value
Color Clear¹
Viscosity 1,200 – 1,700 cP²
Base Ethyl Hybrid

¹ Colors may vary from nearly white to yellow/amber. Adhesive performance is not affected by color variation.
² Cone-Plate viscosity, CP50 at 100/s shear rate.

Typical Mixed Physical Properties

Attribute Name Temperature Value
Time to Full Cure 23°C (73°F) 24 h¹
Time to Handling Strength 30 s²
Gap Fill 0.008 in
Percent of Initial Strength 23°C (73°F) 100%
Percent of Initial Strength 75°C (167°F) 99%
Percent of Initial Strength 100°C (212°F) 88%
Percent of Initial Strength 125°C (257°F) 48%

¹ The cure time is defined as the time required for the adhesive to achieve a minimum of 80% of the ultimate strength as measured by aluminum-aluminum OLS.
² Minimum time between bond creation and ability to support a 34 kPa (5 psi) tensile load. Open and set times determined by RT environment. Higher temperatures will lengthen open and set times, while lower temperatures will shorten open and set times.
