SNAPSIL™ RTV100 Series from Momentive:

Product & Technology Overview

  • One‐Component, Condensation‐Cure Silicone:
The SNAPSIL™ RTV100 Series consists of one‐component silicone sealants that cure at room temperature (moisture cure). No mixing is required, making them convenient for various production or repair environments.

  • Versatile Adhesive/Sealants:
They are designed for sealing, potting, and bonding in a range of industries—particularly electronics, automotive, and general industrial assembly—where flexible, moisture‐resistant seals are needed.

  • Primerless Adhesion:
The formulations adhere well to many substrates, including metals (e.g., aluminum, copper, steel), ceramics, and various plastics, without requiring a separate primer.

Key Features

  1. Ease of Use:

    • Single‐component system; no separate catalyst required.
    • Cures at room temperature with atmospheric moisture (condensation mechanism).
  2. Wide Temperature Range:

    • Once cured, the RTV100 Series can typically withstand broad temperature extremes, suitable for environments where temperature cycling is common.
  3. Flexible & Durable:

    • Produces an elastic silicone rubber with good elongation and tensile strength.
    • Absorbs mechanical and thermal stresses well.
  4. Non‐Corrosive:

    • Formulated to be non‐acidic, so it generally does not corrode metals or sensitive electronic components.
  5. Excellent Electrical Properties:

    • Offers high dielectric strength and insulation, making it suitable for use in or around electronic assemblies.
  6. Multiple Grades (Viscosities/Colors):

    • The series typically comes in different flowabilities and colors (e.g., clear, white, black) to meet a variety of application needs.

Typical Applications

  1. Electronics & Electrical Assemblies:

    • Coating and sealing printed circuit boards, sensors, connectors, and power supply units.
    • Potting and encapsulating small electronic components for protection against moisture, dust, and vibration.
  2. Industrial Assembly & Maintenance:

    • General bonding and sealing where a flexible, moisture‐resistant silicone seal is required.
    • Adhesive sealant for enclosures, housings, and cable entries.
  3. Automotive & Transportation:

    • Gasketing for lighting assemblies, instrument panels, and other areas exposed to temperature swings and vibration.
  4. Household & Consumer Goods:

    • Sealant for appliances and general repair/maintenance where a durable silicone seal is needed.
